Two reasons why experienced TR turbo prop guys are finding it more difficult to get their first jet job:
1. Many jet operators need bums in the right hand seat immediately, so they're taking candidates from the flying schools simply because they won't wait for others to serve their 3 months notice period - it helps with late planning!
2. Taking on ab intio pilots makes commercial sense to the bean counters because it serves to undermine the profession as a whole by reducing co-pilot salary's from £40,000ish to £30,000ish, or even less.
Those of you who have served your apprenticeship on turbo props and waiting to move on to jets are currently getting a raw deal for those two reasons.
