I would have thought Deutsche Post value the American market far too much to go rocking the boat in seeking "cabotage rights". On the other hand don't be too surprised to see them hedging their bets in using new joint venture carriers from this side of the Atlantic to provide one stop import/export options; that would certainly give them the flexibilty and diversity they are looking for.

The vogue business terminology in DHL management circles seems to be; "we seek to divest". Divesting signifies a different kind of business approach from the style UPS & Fedex use, and it's a strategy that's likely to conform well with Deutsche Post's stated outsourcing policy.
