It's a hard call. I live in Southampton and for most international flights I leave from there and change at CDG. This avoids the drive to Heathrow and Heathrow itself, but does mean changing in Paris. On balance it's worth it. From Oxford it might be an interesting option too, but with the car journey the options are more evenly balanced.
