HAHA...Ol' IB...pickin' on the newbies...shame shame!

As for THIS:
It would be unusual for the controller to tell all aircraft to standby
DAMN that cracked me up!!

From the Saudi Air Traffic Controller's Training Manual:

"Introduction To Air Trafficking in the KSA":

Page 1:

"Welcome to the world of ATC in the KSA! You will learn, absorb, exude, and above all else, BE the best ATC-ers in the world because of your vast use of the most powerful word you will learn. This word is cherished by your colleagues that man the microphones now, and forever it shall echo in the hallowed halls we have to work within. You shall chant it quietly to yourselves, your colleagues, your friends, your family....it is above all else, THE word you will use the most, regardless what the aircraft is doing on your radar scope. Whomever calls you, be it for an emergency diversion due to an engine shut-down like recently happened... be it for a legitimate request to climb, descend, or to do some loop-de-loops...you shall above all else, reply to any contact by radio to you as follows:

"STANDBY!!!"

For greater effect, be sure to use the SECOND most common transmission heard from our ATC units from far and wide across our vast Kingdom! That being:

"STANDBY!!! STANDBY!!! ALL STATIONS STANDBY!!!"

Learn the Mantra, brothers! Live it! LOVE it! USE IT AND ABUSE IT!!

God I miss that "great" service provided by most of the Jeddah ATC crowd!
- NOT!!!
