Bookworm permit me to doubt that you have ever been
inside a real CB 
You might have been close to or dodged some, flown in between some others, but I seriously doubt that you will willingly flew into any kind of CB (in which case I sure never want to be in any kind of craft in your company...)
And yes, I think most of us still manage to operate regularly and safely during spring and fall convective weather, "religiously" avoiding CBs by flying
between them, no big deal, just daily bread!
