Does it happen, if the USN adaptor is plugged in when the PC is switched on?
i.e. - shut the PC down, and the then start it, with the USB device attached?
Failing that, the other thing to try is to re-scan for hardware, under the system icon, in the control panel. You could always upgrade
as well
