Geez, several thousand hours means about three or four years and you still haven't worked out when to nod and say 'yessir', 'great advice skipper, I'll give that a shot next time', 'no I never thought of that', 'I don't know that I can do it that way' and finally 'nah, I'm not that good'?
Seriously though, if it's a method that's allowed by SOP then be prepared to give it a shot. There is no SOP to cover every situation.
