Lucifer you're quite right.
In my previous post I suggested that he remortgage the house and plan a getout stratergy. I was going to add to it that if she's rich in here own right then maybe he should stick it out. In todays times this is not unusual what with inheritance, mega-bucks in the city etc.
Joking apart, what really stuck me about the original thread is the fact that he is happy where he is and with an 100k per year income, life in the UK does not have to be ****ty
