Contrary to popular belief, there are enough engines on a 747 that the fickleness of one, once beyond a magic V1, does not in itself constitute an inflight emergency. Perhaps as you learn more, this will (ahem) become fathomable.
My question is: what additional factor(s) brought this event beyond the simple OEI case into the emergency category?
