Thanks for the info folks, both cd rom and cdrw are on the secondary IDE, I have tried master/slave and vice versa, also set it up on the hard drive as slave no different,have just unpluged the cd rom and there are no problems, it only crashes if both cds are connected and just to make it more odd, by trying the cdrw on its own it proves that the cdrw is not at fault.
