Why are many airplanes of italian airlines registered in Ireland? (AZ inclusa)
I-FORD is right, because the owner/lessor registers its planes where it better suits its needs. Of course you nedd to have a registered office in Ireland and the main reasons are:
- witholding tax issues
- financial issues
- repossession issues
- lower taxation
- and in case of ACMI, crew mgmt
There are other good reasons to register an a/c in Ireland, but the above are the main drivers for any EI registration.
As far as Italian a/l are concerned, the first three points are of fundamental importance, also because they cannot afford - financially and generally speaking - to get aircraft directly because their credit standing is - being very kind - very poor.
