Another question ... try the following:
  1. Start
  2. Control Panel
  3. Network Connections
Can you tell me what headings (eg Dial up, LAN or High Speed Internet) appear and the names of all of the icons under each heading?

1) 1394 connection /LAN/Connected,firewalled / 1394 Net Adapter
2) Local Area Connection / LAN / Connected, firewalled / Realtek RTL8139/810x family fast ethernet NIC
