Actually, all mobile numbers in the pre-MTC days began with 9 to make 7 digits.
The 6 digit landline numbers had area codes...3 for Muharraq, 2 for Manama, 6 for Isa Town and A'ali and 7 for Budaiya.
Utterly pointless...but what else would you expect from a company like Cable and Wireless installing a phone system in a country the size of Walton-on-the-Naze.....!
