Sounds like a lot of money to me. The 430 in my Bo cost about $14k (incl installation) two years ago and the terrain upgrade around $500.

I would have thought that the cost of the GNS430 should be coming down as it is becoming dated (though still great) technology.

Are you getting the 16W Com GNS430A rather than the 10W Com? I understand that adds around $5k to the bill. Might be great to have in more remote areas, but the 10W unit is a huge improvement over the older King gear in the aeroplane.

There are other things I would spend money on before dropping $5k on the extra 6W, eg strike finder/storm scope and all cylinder engine monitor.
