HUE
Except if it was a "local" in which case you may well find yourself in a cell!
I'm able to contrast the response to this type of situation from Captains here in the UAE aswell as an Australian airline. Having observed them first hand. All I can say is that I consider what you have posted as a wonderful ideal! The gap between what should be done, what is seen to be done and what is actually done,is no wider than it gets in UAE aviation. I would back an Aussie pilot with an Aussie airline to be the greatest help when dealing with a violent pax. Why? Because the Australian regs give them the legal backing necessary to provide for the safety and comfort of all pax and crew. The UAE regs are,to the best of my knowledge, silent on this issue. Also EK management are spineless on this;the pax is always right with this company. "We must remember we are visitors in their country....." Does that sound like the Manager IFS to you? EK will not back their pilots;pilots with no legal recourse cannot and will not, back their own judgement on this matter. So cabin crew are on their own.
Sorry to go on so much, but as this is a matter that effects my day-to-day living so I feel passionately about it.
HUE. Insha'allah you will never have to look in the mirror and see the face of someone who betrayed such a high ideal. If you were my Captain I'd back you up,because I rather suspect that you would support your crew. I think it's about trust between flight crew.
Now a happy story to illustrate how it should always be. Whilst boarding I noticed a "suspect" pax. At that moment I was called to the flight deck. The F/O had also noticed the pax. The Captain asked if I thought the pax was OK to travel. I said the pax smelled of alcohol, staggered when he walked and couldn't find his own seat. I added that I would prefer not depart with this pax. I will never forget what the Captain said: "(my name) if you don't want this pax in your cabin then I don't want this person on my areoplane,I'll have the ground staff come and collect him." Now that's what I consider to be professional trust.
Jetlegs,
I'm really sorry that it seems nobody cared, least of all your Captain. Flowers can't replace lost trust. Many flight deck members don't quite understand how much we(in the cabin) rely on their support and judgement.
Kindest Regards,
toga.
