I found this letter in my drop file any comments , and anyone else receive it????easyJet Cabin Crew

"This letter is formal notification of a Department Grievance against easyJet and Alpha Catering by the Cabin Crew. The nature of our grievance is Commission, in laymen's terms we are not receiving our 5% Commission on the sales from the easyKiosk.

In our Contract of Employment which also includes the Company Handbook, it clearly states in the breakdown of our salary that we will receive 5% Commission on Sales.

For a number of months, even years for some crew there has been a major discrepancy in the amount of commission we receive. In the last 10 months this has increased to a point where some crew are not receiving any money from the sales they make on board the aircraft and others are receiving stupid amounts from 52p - £349 (Which the latter is impossible to attain.) There have been many times we as crew have been told it is being looked into and still nothing happens.

We would like you to make this grievance a matter of urgency and remedy the problem.
The Cabin Crew as a whole are entitled to their commission. In the position you are in you are fully aware of the amount of money being taken through the bars daily and of how much commission we should be receiving. We are led to believe from yourself the reason we do not receive commission is because individually we may be in deficit with Alpha Catering. We have investigated this matter legally with an Independent body and have been informed that Alpha deducting discrepancies from Our Commission is illegal. We refer to the Employment Rights Act of 1996 and the section of Illegal Deductions from Earnings.

We all believe in the same philosophy as our founder Stelios, if something is wrong then fight. As he has done with many people BA/KLM and Barclays amongst others. What Alpha Catering is doing is firstly wrong, secondly illegal and thirdly destroying the morale of the cabin crew.

We would like you to remedy the problem and liase with Alpha to gain our commission and get it paid to us. The cabin crew on board work really hard and sell on the bars, sometimes in excess of £700+. Below is a brief summary detailing on a low bar and an easy scheduled month the minimum commission we should be receiving:

A bar operates a 4 Sector day:- Ltn-Ams-Ltn-Ams-Ltn and takes £300

£300 divided by 5% = £15.00

5% of £300 is divided by number of crew on board (3 mostly)

£15.00 divided by 3 = £5.00 per crew member.

If each crew member works for 15 days that month and takes £300 every day

£5.00 x 15 Days of work = £ 75.00

That crew member should receive £75.00 commission less Tax & Insurance.

You know as well a we do Steve, we take a lot more than that every day and work a lot more than just 15 days. If you use the above as an example and times that by the number of months a crew member has been with the company it soon mounts up to a substantial sum as below;
3 months with easyJet = £ 225.00
6 months with easyjet = £ 450.00
12 months with easyJet = £ 900.00
18 months with easyJet = £ 1350.00 and so on.

You will probably understand our frustrations over this matter. In Geneva the crew apparently resorted to refusing to sell their bars, which then resulted in them having a contract with another company. They now receive their commission, is that what we have to make happen before something is done?

We as a crew have sought legal advice on this matter and we are informing easyJet via yourself that if within 28 days this matter is not resolved to the crews' satisfaction then we will have no other alternative but to commence legal proceedings in the form of an Industrial Tribunal. We hope we do not have to resort to this and hopefully can resolve this matter amicably and set a precedent for the future.

We the crew at Luton and Liverpool look forward to hearing your reply via the e-mail address you received this letter from. We as a group are willing to sort this matter out and discuss fully with you exactly how we should go about this matter.

Yours Sincerely

The Cabin Crew of easyJet Airline Company both at Luton & Liverpool."
