Bonsoir ICING AOA,

Sorry. I misread your original post, thinking you were saying that Vueling, Ryanair and Easyjet were EACH about to get a base in MAD.

EASYJET
I too have heard that Easyjet intend on establishing a stronger presence in the Spanish (domestic!) market.

The link below is news item from a few days ago saying that Easyjet have requested slots to fly between Madrid and Lanzarote.
http://www.canarias7.es/articulo.cfm?Id=30197
"Otra empresa, Easy Jet, tiene hasta el 31 de agosto se para confirmar el inicio de operaciones entre Madrid y Lanzarote, uno de los aeropuertos más baratos de las Islas para aterrizar y despegar."

This would be interesting to see Easyjet break into the Canary Island market? And what's more they would be going straight into competition with Spanish airlines.

Another news article from a couple of weeks ago talks in general about Easyjet planning a significant increase in its Spanish operations and adds that the airline has applied for slots to fly between Madrid and Asturias.

RYANAIR
The link below is an article from a couple of weeks ago that says that Ryanair have applied for slots to fly between Madrid and Granada.
http://www.typicallyspanish.com/news...cle_4998.shtml

Iberia currently does this route and Vueling are also planning to start up on this route.

And another article (link below) suggests that Ryanair are considering the following routes from Granada:
-Dublin
-Glasgow Prestwick
-Milan Bergamo
http://www.20minutos.es/noticia/1384...estinos/volar/
"Eso sí, la línea Granada-Francfort de Ryanair se iniciará en octubre, mientras que sus vuelos a Dublín, Glasgow y Milán se han quedado en el aire."

(Ryanair currently fly to Granada from 2 of their bases: Stansted and Liverpool, with Frankfurt Hahn - Granada starting in October.)

Then, what is very interesting is this article (link below) which says that Ryanair have applied for a whole multitude of slots between Madrid and the Canary Islands
http://www.canarias7.es/articulo.cfm?Id=30197
"Ryanair ha pedido una barbaridad de slots para unir Madrid con Canarias."

Yet other article confirms that Ryanair is considering offering a number of domestic flights from Madrid from October!
http://www.capitalrevista.es/capital...idapr=1__esp_1__
"La compañía aérea de bajo coste Ryanair se ha hecho con los derechos (slots) para poner en marcha vuelos nacionales desde el aeropuerto de Madrid-Barajas a partir de octubre."

Here are some more articles on the Ryanair's possible introduction of Madrid to Granada:

It would be excellent to see Ryanair at Madrid
And also if they were to start operations from Madrid to the Canary Islands, we mightn't have to wait long before they start connecting to the islands from their other bases!

It would seem therefore that Spanish domestic market is really hotting up! Vueling are providing some welcome competition to
Iberia / Air Nostrum. Spanair is also an important player.
A brand new airline like Catair would have it's work cut out for it. They'll possibly have to fight off the likes of Ryanair, and that is no easy task.
Not to mention the well established existing players.
