The sad news was announced to us at BA a couple days ago that one of our SCCM's had tragically taken her own life while downroute in Mauritius.
The crew discovered her body and were so devastated they were unable to operate the flight home. The flight was cancelled and a relief crew flown out.
This isn't the first suicide amongst BA crew downroute in recent years.
It just sort of hits home that for some this job (especially long haul) can be incredibly lonely and isolating.
Our SCCM's generally mention in our briefings that they are availble 24/7 downroute if we need them for any personal problems.
From now on, i'm gonna start making the same offer to the SCCM on my flight.
