Just to clarify the Sheik has no need to subsidize the airline. their cost base is akin to Ryanair in Ireland, mostly due to the insanely low labor costs in the UAE for general labor. Even many of the white collar workers here make a fraction of what a developed country would pay, especially if a trade union was involved.
Last year they made over $700 million USD declared profit. All this while funding expansion.
Even if the industry were to suffer yet another blow, you can bet that the company will do whatever necessary to ensure it's survival (read yet further cuts to employee compensation, as I believe they've trimmed all else already!), without the need for cash from the government. I suspect that if it came down to a required bail-out from the government, there would be many more prevalent issues in the world to make that an issue of non-consequence.
