If you are a Direct Entry Captain - no time whatsoever! As an FO, however, a realistic answer would be a minimum of 2 years at the moment - assuming you have the hours. Depending on what happens with expansion plans it could be considerably longer. There are FOs with thousands of hours of jet experience at easyJet but they cannot get promoted because there are no FOs to replace them due to the unpopularity of TRSS. Not to worry though, easyJet have the solution - DECs! That way if you come to easyJet as a fully qualified and capable FO, you can literally sit back and watch dozens of DECs walk right in front of you to take your command slots. We currently have approximately 100 FOs awaiting command courses (ie jumped through all the hoops and awaiting courses) and many more waiting assessments or are promotable but not gone through the hoops. There are simply not the command courses this year (or next) to absorb these people. In addition, there are many 2000hr+ FOs who will be in the some boat next year. Nonetheless, we still apparently 'need' 20+ DECs this year!
In short, if you are coming here as an FO looking for a 'quick command', you should be extremely careful. The unpalatable truth is that easyJet will always back external candidates before considering the interests of its own FOs. That is particularly so with regards to base allocation, leave priority and promotion. We do not have a seniority list, but in theory once you are on a command or base transfer list your place is set in concrete. The problem is that the concrete remains wet! In practice, you are never there until you are there. For example, there are a number of command courses coming up in the next month or so - the first for months incidentally. I know of a number of people who are high up the list but no one has yet received written confirmation of their place on the course. In other words, as an FO you have no rights and no agreements are currently in place to ensure fair and reasonable treatment. Fortunately we have an increasingly powerful union who are hopefully coming to the end of a long pay dispute - they will then be able to address themselves to unacceptable issues such as this.
