If it weren't for the crews going out on a limb, the operators would actually have to spend money and get things done properly. On top of that, there is second guessing from HQ who decide spares ordered aren't necessary or too expensive and just don't send them until things go pear shaped and the aircraft is AOG. The unfortunate reality is that there are many young guys who would be only too happy to have that job and the operators know it, thus the abuse of the system that goes on.
My original point stands - Be selective about who you work for.....
