The radios that control these RC airplanes are good for about one kilometer if I recall, but of course you can't effectively see it anywhere near that far.
It becomes a 'speck' in the sky very quickly, even with the sun in a favourable position!
The jets are centrifical compressor types, and have inbuilt EECs to control starting and operating EGT, and include electric start these days.
I've found the jets are far to fast to have any real fun with, the thing is passed your control point VERY quickly, and you have to be aware that the turning circle at these speeds may exceed your effective sighted distance!
I have stuck with the prop driven types with single cylinder i/c engines, much more fun and don't cost anywhere those jet types.
