Air New Zealand Rates Highly in UK Travel Award

Thu 25 October 2001

Air New Zealand was voted fourth best airline by readers of the one of the UK's leading newspapers, the Daily Telegraph, behind Emirates, Singapore Airlines and Virgin Atlantic at the annual Daily Telegraph Travel Awards published last Saturday. British Airways was fifth.

Over 25,000 questionnaires were sent out asking for the best and the worst airlines, hotels, cities and tour operators amongst other categories. The poll is the largest of its type involving the British travelling public and is well respected within the travel industry. The survey was carried out before the September 11 attacks.

Roger Poulton, UK/Europe Regional General Manager says the award recognises Air New Zealand's continual high levels of service in a very competitive market place.

"We are delighted that the British travelling public has recognised our solid reputation up in the UK. Our challenge is to maintain our high service standards in the changed environment we now operate in and encourage people to continue to fly with us to visit New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific."

This is the third accolade from the travelling public in recent months - readers of 'Conde Nast Traveller' and independent travellers' magazine 'Wanderlust' both voted Air New Zealand fifth best leisure airline, ahead of major competitors.

Also, at the recent Direct Marketing Association's annual awards for New Zealand, the national carrier won four gold awards in recognition of its excellent one-to-one communication with the travelling public. It was awarded gold in the following categories - Best Customer Retention programme, Best Loyalty/Relationship Programme, Data Management and Most Cost Effective Campaign.
