IF this report is accurate then 40 miles it is. See the second last para.

How much if any, negotiation has taken place through RAPAC or with any of the operators based at the 20 or so airports/airstrips within this 40 mile radius that appear to be severely restrained by this.

More heavy handed security for own good of course.

Air Force to be on patrol during Games
The Victoria Police Chief Commissioner has released more details about the security arrangements for next year's Commonwealth Games.

There are now 100 days to go before the Games start.

Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon has used the opportunity to again reassure the community the state is prepared and security measures are in place.

She says there will be a visible military presence including the use of Hornet FA18s, which will patrol during the opening and closing ceremonies.

Commissioner Nixon says the community should not be alarmed.

"I think the military people are concerned the community might get worried about that and that's why we're talking about it so they won't," she said.

There will be a restricted flight zone around Melbourne, as most of the Games activity will be staged in and around the city centre.

Commissioner Nixon says provisions are in place should a rogue plane breach the restricted zone, including the possibility of shooting the aircraft down.

Commander Brendan Bannan says the air exclusion zone will be effective for the duration of the event.

"The exclusion zone is a forty nautical mile radius from the Melbourne Cricket Ground," he said.

"The Melbourne basin of course is already a restricted area because of the commerciality of it so the policing of that restricted area will be a partnership between Victoria Police and Defence."
