"Japanese jet's engine bursts into flames
KAGOSHIMA, Japan, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- A Japanese passenger jet made an emergency landing in southern Japan after a fire burned a large hole in its right engine.
Skymark Airlines Flight 306, with 90 people aboard, had just left Kagoshima on a flight to Tokyo late Thursday afternoon, when a cockpit warning light indicated a fire in the Boeing 767's engine. The pilot shut down the engine and returned to Kagoshima, making an emergency landing about 15 minutes later.
No injuries were reported, the Mainichi Shimbun reported Friday.
Transport ministry officials called it as a serious incident that could have led to a fatal accident, and dispatched inspectors to the scene.
Ministry officials and mechanics found a jagged hole in the right engine that was 60 inches long and between 8 and 24 inches wide. Many of the engine's blades were missing."
Now that is what I call a hole!
