Hey will83, I'm also scheduled for my stage 2 interview in Jan. I assume it's the Jan 10th one. All they've said is that I've past stage 1 and stage 2 will take place in Jan, details to follow later. Maybe it's cos I had my stage 1 way back in Oct and Nov.
Anyways, I'm from Van too.....well.....kind of.....hehe.
Just to add another dimension to will's interview debrief, I got asked slightly different questions, especially on the technical side:
Technical:
Do you know the four forces acting on an airplane in flight?
How do airplanes stay in the air?
What European destinations does CX fly to?
What types of airplanes does CX fly?
Personal:
Why do you want to be a pilot?
Are you applying to KA's cadet pilot program as well?
What other jobs have you applied to?
I got the impression that they will keep asking technical questions until you don't know the answer, and see how you handle it. You don't want to guess answers to technical questions, one of the interviewers is a pilot and he/she WILL know when ur guessing.
Two interviewers, a pilot and a HR manager, usually Belinda. The pilot asked most the questions, with Belinda throwing in a few at the end.
Some additional notes on stage one tests:
Presentation:
They haven\'t changed the subject in years. The CX website is an obvious place to start, but it\'s worth doing some additional research to really show ur keen. keep to the time limit, and try not to use any notes. Us native English speakers have a real advantage here, so expliot it!! Only one person (usually Belinda) will be present, and she was only half listening (no eye contact, making notes on ur file)!! So don\'t be freaked out by the unfriendly atmosphere. I think the presentation is just to make sure ur halfway decent in conversational English.
Listening Test
Thick Brit accent, been covered before. Try listening to web-broadcasts from bbc.co.uk to get an idea.
Grammar Test
Not a big prob for anyone from Van I hope!
Aptitude Test
Similar to those IQ tests where there are four graphics and you have to pick the one that doesn\'t match the others. Watch the time! Skip one if still have figured it out after a while. I didn\'t finish, had to guess the last few.
Eye-hand Coordination
5 \'computer games\'
1- Track L-R movements of dot on screen using joystick
2- Time based mathes test. format: 384 -43 = 351 Yes/No? 30 questions
3- Friend/foe identification. Outline of aircraft flashes briefly and you have to decide whether it\'s a friend of foe (difference in wingspan by a few pixels)
4- Similar to (1) but with horizontal axis controlled by foot pedals and vertical axis controlled by joystick. Difficult!!
5- Landing simulator. This was the most complex and most fun!!! You get five approaches, you have to line up the aircraft with the runway while reducing speed and altitute, and have to watch fuel level as well. Controls: joystick, foot pedal, throttle (+/-)
Hope this helps!! Good luck
