SAA is currently busy developing a program for accelerated command - idea is to have 50 new captains (i.e. representative of demographics) within the next three years. Appears that the SAA pilots union is also involved in the planning process.
To reach this target, certain "adjustments" need to be made to the current upgrade criteria (experience/length of service/etc.).
Bad luck for the poor guys who were expecting upgrades in the near future. Although they may comply with current requirements for upgrade - they will soon find themselves bypassed by junior pilots.
