Another thought.
Suppose this rumor is true, it won't take long for a competitor to realise that providing inflight service will gain them market share, and then inflight catering will come flooding back again.
I used to fly AN just because their catering and service was better, even though their average ticket price was more expensive. I will fly with any airline who treats and feeds me well, even if it costs a little more.
