Qantas to cease in-flight meals
Rumour has it that Qantas is to cease in-flight meals on all domestic flights except for some with stage lengths which justify the need. e.g. SY-PH
A biscuit and a glass of water will posssibly have to suffice from beginning of 2002.
It appears that without meals being supplied from either VB or AN, QF see no need to either.

i think its a good idea,
you do not need a meal on a 1 hour
flight,a biscuit and one of those
spill-it-all-over yourself foil topped
orange juice containers should do.

Due to cost cutting measures, in the event of a water landing, your sandwich box may be used as a floatation device.
Please remove them from the aircraft at the terminal under normal landing circumstances. Thank you.

I have a theory why those orang juice containers spill each time you open it.
Here it is .... They are packed at sea level pressure. When you open them in flight, you're at a cabin pressure (8,000 ft AMSL pressure?). Thus the pressure differential causes some of the orange juice to spill out when opened.
Can anyone verify this theory?

Moderate, Modest & Mild.
QANTAS are going to STOP supplying in-flight meals?
They really ARE trying to increase their market share aren't they!! Now they may find even MORE "customers" (do you really need to use that word - what was wrong with passengers?) willing to fly with them!
This might be the thin end of the wedge for aircraft cleaners [as well as the caterers].....no (food) catering = less mess on and around seats = less cleaning.

i find they give those OJ containers to
you as the aircraft is taxiing for take-off
and you manage to open it without spilling,
but the aircraft seams to hit the only bump
for miles around and splash.

Ron,
Love your work mate. The fact that you're a fat old guy who is very hairy, rooting a lot of hot young women AND getting paid for it, gives a lot of people out there a lot of hope.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers,
TL

Sorry, I just don't believe that QF will stop the inflight meals. After all, how much did they spend in development and advertising for their new cardboard box???
I think they will realise that the customer backlash will hit if they stop. After all it's the only inflight difference between them and Virgin and the latter are in most cases that much cheaper...

Orange Juice / Spring Water containers
Look for the pull tab, pull tab hand pulling tab moves away from you, now less resistance on hand holding tub this hand moves towards you. Liquid in tub slops backwards towards the still sealed end can't get out is reflected back towards the open side and overflows onto youyr shirt which is now closer to tub than when you started.
The only way to avoide this is having found the pull tab rotate the tub 180 degrees before pulling the tab......you still spill it but now over the seat back in front of you!
Sealed at sea level makes no differnce to still drinks but fizzy ones .....ah where's the tissue?
Meals a waste of time on short legs and notice how many don't get eaten.

It was the skippies that started and demanded the inflight service in the first place so I guess that it will have to be the skippies that finish it. Hooray.
What a load of bollocks having to have inflight service on a service of less than an hours duration where you hardly have time to eat it. Competition was pretty bl**dy stupid at times.

Now why don't they seal those drinks in a vacuum, that way, when you open the drink it sucks the air in and not spills the drink out.
Just a thought!!

All this talk about missing out on all that wonderful in-flight food reminds me of a story concerning a United domestic flight several years ago.
Due to a catering mix-up the flight was short several meals and the purser asked over the PA for anyone not requiring a meal to press their call buttons now, blew the circuit breakers apparently.

Most people I have spoken to only eat the meal coz it's there (& free).
I have flown on Virgin Blue & was quite happy to pay for my Stolichnaya & Pringles.
I'm sure most people, given the choice would rather pay less for the airfare & go without the hot meal.
A bikkie or piece of cake doesn't go astray tho' & less maintenance for the f/a's.

Wasn't there a thread somewhere on PPRuNe about Kendell (i think). Right after they resumed flying they were not offering in flight food service, but the crew had started baking bikkies for the PAX. They heated them up mid flight, the aroma filling the cabin. Apparently most PAX said that the bikkies were better than any inflight meal they had had.
But we must remember that if QF stops, or even cuts down on in flight meals, then alot of our friends over in catering will lose thier jobs.
