ATC is full of frustrated pilots who if they had their time over would go flying.
Also there isn't a shortage of controllers - they are not recruiting as far as I am aware - the planned courses cancelled when AN fell over.
If you love flying enough you will find a way to make it work - if you don't you'll find an excuse to dip out.
