Well said Night Owl. I'm just an observer with no axe to grind except my GBO has suffered a 40% reduction in revenue right in the middle of EBA negotiations. The demise of Ansett goes back to the Silver Bodgie/Fat Man/Paperboy era where the company was basically asset stripped and leased back, (also remember Gate Gormet was AN Catering), then Sir Sel (great ego, f+++ all aviation sense) and a procrastinating PM got involved. If the NZ govt had approved the selloff of up to 49% to SQ, when first floated some time ago, the only one's not laughing would have been the Chairman of the latter. (and AN would still be in business). To many aviation professionals in Australia, like AN, TEAL/ANZ has been part of their aviation experience over 34 years, I'm sure we would hate to see it go as well.
