I didn't know that there was any B737 maintenance work being done at Avalon - I thought that it was confined to B747/B744. A few months ago QF signed a lease for the fifth hangar (No 1) as they needed extra capacity as more B747 work is shifted out of Sydney. It wouldn't make much sense to acquire the extra hangar it you are going to downsize.
I believe that when QF announces its new aircraft orders in the next month or so, then we'll have a better idea of ground engineers careers - I'm sure that senior management already know.
