Remember also that flight crew costs are a very small proportion of total operating costs. At the same meeting it was conceded that current QF 767 crew are pretty productive by world standards - I have heard that comment on numerous occasions - whereas QF cabin crew are expensive (big hint).
When you consider that one particular QF baggage handler earned $113K last year it becomes obvious that there are plenty of ways to trim costs without necessarily taking away from flight crew.
