Spot on "E"
Muncen, repeat after me: 'Date of Joining, Date of Joining, Date of Joining"
Many moons ago, when I was in the process of exiting the military stage left, a commercial pilot friend of mine mentioned to me that "young man, everything is driven by your date of joining, and I mean everything" ...never was a truer phrase spoken.
Military hours may well help with the licence, may get you onto a "heavy" type when you join a Company ( ZFT and all that) ahead of a low hours newbie but thats it.
In most if not all "normal" airlines you won't jump over less experienced guys in terms of Command, or bidding for work time, or getting time off at Xmas, or even when trying to get that last seat on an aircraft when using staff travel.
As E said, the real key is join early - and don't bore the pants off the guys/girls with the "when I was on ------- stories," leave that to the Trident Guys ( I can't believe it, I just used the T word, soorriiee.)
Good luck
