Rex isn't stupid. When it loses the Ozjet bound pilots and they want their jobs back after Ozjet joins the house of Compass, they will get them back easily by offering them a fraction less than they are paying them now. In the mean time they can pick and choose who they will hire to fill the gaps on less pay and indeed who they will let back in.
Airlines rarely rush into these decisions and almost always play their cards cleverly.
