Can you afford an Flight Inst. rating, circa £5-6k...

You will build further experience, have better decision making, improved flying skills, probably learn to fly properly (!), have more to say at interview, will build P1 confidence, have more friends and CONTACTS plus your hours will steadily increase. Also, an entirely new aviation market will open with 700hours P1.

Planes are not going anywhere and nor is aviation! Everybody wants to travel and if you look at world aviation plans, its expansion at every corner.

Paid-for type ratings are knee jerk reactions from airlines and graduates to get pilots for the first recruitment drive since 2001. Think what happens when a dam bursts, it all goes mad for a while then it soon settles down.

For the established players, I think/hope that bonding schemes will take over where you pay back the rating via your monthly salary as they are slowly realising that not everybody has £20,000 in their back pocket.

However, there is absolutely no point rotting in an office. Stay within the flying game whatever you do.

Good luck,

Craggs
