type ratings ?

I am seriously considering self funding a type rating inorder to improve my chances of getting my cv at least considered. I have 1500 hrs 100 multi and aged 42 I realise that people in the industry consider paying for a type rating an ultimate insult, but
feel that chances are fading. Any comments would be gratefuly recieved including which type/ organisation to go for.
