I believe Grampian News had it all over their headlines, ie. that a major disruption had been averted due to the fact that North Sea helicopter pilots had won parity with their counterparts flying planes to Corfu.
If I had been an entrepeneur and been given the choice of taking a group of people to the middle of the North Sea (at night, in snow and ice) or the Mediterranean, I know who I would have expected to pay more for driving me there.
Let's hope that these guys in Scotia, who went out on a limb ( but got BALPA's support) have woken up helicopter management. We're in this business together, and for almost a strike to be actioned is saying that there is a lack of understanding somewhere!
I would also think that the Scotia deal has repurcussions for the poor guys who work overseas in sometimes worse conditions.
