I appreciate the difference between PPL and military students, but when I instructed on the Whirlwind, students did three solo engine off landings as "a boost to their confidence". Didn't do much for the QHI's in the tower who was monitoring them! And I wouldn't suggest it with an R22 (reluctant myself unless the wind is >15kts and there only a whiff of petrol in the tank!)
