The worst thing NATS ever did with its IT was to contract out.

They thought it would be cheaper, and more cost effective.

SEMA was an out-and-out expensive disaster, and ITNET hasn't been much better. One of the obvious failures with both organisations, was neglecting to realise that not everyone would be satisfied with the standard desktop and associated raft of outdated programmes available.

The motto in each case was "Give everyone Microsoft Office and they'll all be happy - oh, and it'll be cheaper as well".

What rubbish - different users required different combinations of software available to them - horses for courses. The catalogue of available software came out of the Ark and was at rip-off prices, too. The backup has been abysmal, too.

Just another example of NATS' shortsightedness in the interest of "progress"
