With respect San Expiry, you are talking b*******!. Safety culture at Ronaldsway, as regard to emergencies, has been the same for years. An aircraft with an unsafe gear indication is a Full Emergency.

With increasing traffic levels it is inevitable there will be more incidents of this nature. The two last major emergencies were both as a result of MAYDAY calls from the crew. Are you suggesting we over-reacted to these?

For those interested, the reason we involve the Coastguard for all emergencies at Ronaldsway is two fold - a) we are surrounded by water and every emergency is a potential maritime incident and b) if it all does go pear shaped they are a valuable manpower resource, able to provide us with upwards of 20 trained volunteers within minutes.

As far as Security is concerned, the only comment I can make is that they are on a hiding to nothing. Do the job by the book and they get slagged off, bend the rules even slightly and they risk the sack. What would you do in their situation?
