Just for your reference I do perform and very well and I have improved my position within the company. I wasnt around in the good old days so I dont sit around complaining about what might have been. I certainly dont expect anymore then 9% over 3 years because thats just the way Qantas is and sadly unions won't win the fight in this area.

What I do have a problem with Matt_W is the future of all Qantas group cabin crew and the future of people like yourself who want the chance at their dream job.

But thanks to this "business" you call Qantas the best you can ever hope for within Qantas mainline cabin crew is a casual position within short haul or a fixed term in long haul (BTW if you werent aware fixed term crew cant be put onto 5 year contracts or even be extended beyond 1 year unlike Woodside and BHP and this isnt going to change within the next couple of years), your only other option as you noted is to go off-shore to Auckland or London. What sort of future or life is that? You get a fixed term position and 1 year later you find yourself out on the street just like the current fixed termers will find themself or you go overseas and work for inferior conditions and salary, is this the sort of future you want? Working as a casual forever in a day or going overseas thats your only options, thanks to Qantas.

Australian Airlines are now even discussing overseas bases so you may also find this time next year that Australians are unable to obtain a cabin crew position with this airline either, further reducing opportunities for people like you to develop a long term career as cabin crew, plan your future and develop a stable life for yourself.

I agree some "strikebreakers" were mislead and others couldnt give a toss but because of the use or threatened use of strikebreakers and the strikebreakers willingness to work during past EBA negotiations people like you now cannot obtain a permanent position with our national carrier but 400-500 UK Nationals can in their own country with their family and friends close by and they now have all the opportunities for a future and career (ie promotions) within the industry which otherwise would have been rightfully yours.

Sadly you will never enjoy a permanent position, cabin crew career and the associated conditions like myself, so you will always be on the outside looking in even if you did manage to obtain a casual/fixed term/off-shore role because I certainly wouldnt call any of those options a career.
