strikebreakers vs contractors
Strikebreakers may be on a contract but not all contractors are for the purpose of strikebreaking. Delve into the history of Qantas Long Haul for the previous five years and you will discover that any permanent cabin crew (out of MEL base at least) have been taken from those who were employed on a contractual basis.
As with any job, it is important to consider the length of the contract you are offered, if you are lucky enough to be called before getting turfed off the shortlist.
No current contractors have been offered permanent roles as yet...I have an email from Mark Hassell, General Manager Cabin Crew this week indicating that 'at this stage' no permanent crew will be employed for the financial year 2005/06.
While that can all change tomorrow, don't put your life on hold for it.
Virgin have lost a number of cabin crew to QF with the last 11 month contract intake...perhaps they would consider offering you a flying role to keep you?
I hope this helps you make a decision.
Good Luck
