Aaah, but you were lucky. We used to DREAM of flying a heavily overloaded 182 for 300 USD.
Why, when I was a young pilot I was thrashed awake every day 5 hours before I went to sleep by our vicious CP armed with an old crankshaft, and then had to fly a Wright Flyer MK1 with a dodgy engine delivering meat cleavers to the vicious man eating Wanaeatya tribe of Central Africa. 300 usd - what a luxury - we used to work for a slice of mouldy bread and a half glass of sour goats milk once a month in the good months. But did we complain - not a bit of it. We appreciated what we had, and we were happy.
Aaaah, you were lucky.
