What utter madness! Imagine the nerve of a company wanting to hire pilots that spoke the same language as their clients.
I’m sure that if a company wanted to work in South America they would try and recruit Spanish-speaking pilots.
SASless: you wrote "How long would it take for a western Canada based company advertising for "English speaking" pilots to be hung drawn and quartered by the Canadian government"
Ans:
It would not be a problem for a company in Western Canada to advertise for pilots that spoke English. They don’t [advertise for english] because it is implied that if one were to work in English Canada that they would speak English.
It is much easier for a unilingual English pilot to operate in Quebec than a unilingual French pilot to operate in the rest of Canada. In Quebec, Air Traffic Services (ATS) are provided in both French and English. Outside of Quebec and the National Capital Region (Ottawa), ATS is provided in English only.
