Going LoCo

I did read some where a while back that as "all the extra 300m required are within the air field boundry" that technicaly they do not need formal planning conscent, provide that it is a starter strip and not part of the LDA.

If the glide path was not moved then the clearence over the threshold and therefore everthing before it would be unchanged, it would also provide a more stable platform for the RA on CAT3 approaches. The TORA would still stop at the same point as now (although the ASDA would be greater) and therefore the climb out performance/ OBCL would be unchanged.

What the good people of Menston would notice is that in most cases (how many USA bound a/c a day would there be?) is that it would be a lot quieter for all aircraft, as the would reach the same height 300 m earlier on the climb out or use `flex` or derated thrust, which in turn would be less noisey.

It would of course move the T/O thrust noise further back towards Scotland lane, but fewer aircraft would need to use 14 with the extra length on 32 and the thrust settings would be lower in any event.

Can you imagine trying to `sell` that one to the anti noise protester????

Who knows with the extra length they might be able to re lay the whole runway like they did at EMA without closing it (much)

Cheers

Burt
