I see some expert here having some big speculation around what happened.
I will speculate too then.I would believe in case of an engine failure you do your best to control the aircraft and bring everyone safe on the ground and not try to remember what are recommendations/procedures given by the company.
I do believe he did run out of the runway due to a lost of control induce by the assymetric thrust given by the live engine.(I do believe he was with take off power).Then the speed went below VMCa and he lost control.
