Another aspect, I have always felt, is that in an emergency situation (including an unexpected missed approach), it is very easy to move manual strips, cock them out, scribble on them etc, but with an electronic system, an inappropriate proportion of the controller's time would be taken up by updating the electronics - or, more likely, concentrating on the traffic and the electronics getting ignored.
