Yes, you are right, it is also one of their marketing strategy to promote their service. Cathay wanted to be more involve more with the communicty, promote corportate relation to the public and trying to be socially responsible.
I wouldn't worry about it too much in terms of the chances of local and overseas applicants for future recruitments. And besides, HK has always been a excellent place to start a trend, and then quiet down after a few years. I could be wrong, but thats how trends work especially with rescent TVB series as well as the Japanese TV show.
