Your friends may try confuse with McDonell-Douglas. Boeing bought them a few years back and are still required to support the aircraft. The 717 was a McDonell product changed over and somewhat revamped when Boeing bought them.
Boeing also has it's hands in many military aircraft as well. Hope this helps you out.
